SmartTag is now E-Z Pass

Virginia’s electronic toll collection system recently transitioned from the Smart Tag name to E-ZPass in an effort to better define the scope of transponder capabilities for our customers. This name change does not affect the way your transponder operates. Additionally, you do not have to turn in your transponder. E-ZPass customers in Virginia may use their transponders in other states that operate E-ZPass.

Your E-ZPass transponder will let you travel through clearly marked E-ZPass toll facilities in: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. As you travel, your toll will be automatically deducted from your account.

How to Obtain an E-ZPass

If you are a Virginia resident, you can open your E-ZPass account by the following:

• Apply online
  Personal Account Application or Commercial Account Application
• Call 1-877-762-7824
• Visit one of our Service Centers

Residents of Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania Virginia and West Virginia. can link to their home state to apply.
