Virginia’s electronic toll collection system recently transitioned from the Smart Tag name to E-ZPass. This name change does not affect the way your transponder operates. Additionally, you do not have to turn in your transponder. It is the result of wanting to better define transponder capabilities for our customers. E-ZPass customers in Virginia may use their transponders in other states that operate E-ZPass. Your E-ZPass transponder will let you travel through clearly marked E-ZPass toll facilities in: Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. As you travel, your toll will be automatically deducted from your account.
