Gregory L. Akers

Greg L. Akers, CPA joined the RMA in February 2010 as director of finance, and brings 27 years of governmental financial audit and operations experience. Most recently, Greg spent four years as a Senior Audit Manager with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, LLP, primarily serving governmental clients. Greg was Hanover County’s assistant director of finance for five years, where he guided Hanover’s GASB 34 implementation, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) preparation, and accounting operations. He also served four years as Hanover's chief deputy treasurer. Prior to Hanover, Greg served 14 years in various audit roles with Virginia's Auditor of Public Accounts in their Roanoke and Richmond offices.
Greg received a bachelor’s degree from Radford University. He is a member of the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association (VGFOA), and has served on the VGFOA Board and various committees. He has also developed and presented CPE classes and conference presentations for the VGFOA and Treasurer’s Association of Virginia (TAV). He is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
